A statue of the Virgin Mary, believed to be the tallest in Europe, was unveiled in Poland
In the village of Konotop in Poland, a large monument—a 55.6-meter-tall statue of the Virgin Mary—was officially unveiled. According to Euronews, it is considered the tallest statue of the Virgin Mary in Europe.
Hundreds of people gathered for the unveiling ceremony. The program included a Catholic Mass and performances of traditional Polish music. Helicopters also flew over the crowd, scattering red rose petals.

Lech Wałęsa, former president of Poland and leader of the anti-communist “Solidarity” movement, took part in the event. According to Wałęsa, the monument marked the culmination of a journey that began with his Catholic faith.
The monument was commissioned by a local couple, Roman and Grazyna Karkosiki. According to the couple, the statue was erected as an expression of gratitude to God. Local authorities hope that the monument will become a place of pilgrimage and a tourist attraction.
