A 19-year-old suspect in a university shooting was arrested in Virginia
Police have arrested 19-year-old Cameron Harris in connection with a shooting on the campus of Virginia State University in Ettrick. Five people were injured in the overnight shooting, one of whom sustained critical injuries, NDTV World reports, citing the Chesterfield County Police Department.
The shooting occurred on Saturday shortly after 1:30 a.m. near the Quad Annexes housing complex. University police and Chesterfield County police officers found five people with gunshot wounds near the dormitories.
Harris, a resident of Henrico, Virginia, was found hiding in a closet in one of the dormitories. According to law enforcement, he is not a student at the university. Police have obtained eight warrants for serious crimes against Harris, including an offense classified as “malicious wounding” and the use of a firearm during the commission of a serious crime.

The victims range in age from 17 to 23. Law enforcement officials reported that four of them are not students at the university. One of the wounded, a 20-year-old student, has already been discharged from the hospital. The names of the victims have not been released.
The motive for the shooting has not yet been disclosed. Earlier, the university stated that law enforcement was searching for several suspects, but the police have not provided additional details about the manhunt. Following the shooting, the campus was temporarily locked down, but the restrictions were later lifted because law enforcement did not see an immediate threat to the university community.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as well as the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, have joined the investigation. Classes at the university are scheduled to resume on Monday.
