Flooding and a landslide in Spain claimed the lives of two people

At least two women were killed, and two minors sustained minor injuries as a result of a flash flood and landslide in the province of León in northern Spain.

The disaster occurred in the Mansanedo de Valduesa and Buzas areas. The floodwaters inundated a wine cellar where six people were present. Two adult women died, and two children were hospitalized with injuries.

The flood also damaged roads; one of them, leading to Peñalba de Santiago, remains closed. Rescue workers, police, and emergency services are on the scene.

As a reminder, in Germany, due to a prolonged drought and low river levels, the so-called “hunger stones”—historical markers left during years of particularly severe drought—have reappeared above the water.

Record-low water levels in the Danube due to severe drought have exposed dozens of sunken German ships from World War II. On the Serbian-Romanian border, in the middle of the river on a sandbar that is usually submerged, fragments of the hull of one of the ships have become visible.

The drought in Europe has sharply lowered water levels in the Dniester Reservoir.
