Poland has banned cell phones in preschools and elementary schools
The Polish Sejm has approved a bill that would ban the use of cell phones in kindergartens and elementary schools. The new rules are set to take effect on September 1, 2026, if the Senate approves the bill.
A total of 420 lawmakers voted in favor of the decision, six voted against it, and four abstained.
The ban will apply for the entire time children are on school grounds, including breaks, as well as during classes held off-campus.
At the same time, the law provides for a number of exceptions. Cell phones may be used if necessary for the educational process, to assess knowledge, for urgent communication with parents, for medical reasons (with the principal’s approval), or in the event of a threat to life or health.
The restrictions will also apply to kindergartens, preschool groups, and other early childhood education institutions. However, they will not apply to teachers, school staff, or students residing in boarding schools.
