Natalia Varga, president of the Association of Ukrainian Women in Portugal, and Pavlo Sadokha, president of the Union of Ukrainians in Portugal, met with Carlos Abreu Amorim, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, at the Portuguese Parliament.
During the conversation, they discussed support for Ukraine at various levels, as well as the needs of the Ukrainian community currently living in Portugal. The focus was on both humanitarian projects and practical assistance that can be implemented in the near future.
They also discussed ideas that could be useful for the Ukrainian military. In particular, they discussed the possibility of organizing the logistics of fishing nets that could be used to meet Ukraine’s needs. The parties also discussed further steps for cooperation and support, which could be expanded through community initiatives and government channels.
An important part of the meeting was the project “Children of Heroes – Warmed by the Sun and Love 2.” As part of this project, a group of Ukrainian children will be able to travel to Portugal for a vacation from July 27 to August 8.
They also discussed the possibility of children of Ukrainian descent visiting the Portuguese Parliament so they could gain a closer understanding of how the host country’s state institutions operate.
Natalia Varga thanked the Portuguese government official for the meeting and the constructive conversation, emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukraine and Ukrainians abroad. She also specifically acknowledged the assistance of the meeting’s organizers, particularly Orlando Monteiro de Silva and Luís Vidal.
According to the participants, such initiatives help not only to support Ukraine during the war but also to create space for humanitarian aid and mutual understanding between countries. Natalia Varga reported this on her Facebook page.
