Portugal has banned soccer and fishing on its beaches
Portugal has introduced new beach rules that include a number of restrictions for tourists and local residents.
Violations of certain requirements are subject to fines of up to 4,000 euros.
The new restrictions apply both on the mainland and on the island of Madeira. In particular, it is prohibited to play soccer and tennis on beaches outside of designated areas, use loud audio systems, set up tents, light bonfires, or have barbecues.
Additionally, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and the use of jet skis are permitted only in specifically designated areas. Fishing on beaches will now be allowed only after the swimming season ends.
Violators face fines ranging from 200 to 4,000 euros for using loudspeakers, from 30 to 100 euros for playing soccer or pitching tents without authorization, and for violating rules in surfing zones—up to 550 euros.
