Nine road projects in Rawalpindi transferred to department — Dawn
In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, the municipal corporation has transferred nine road projects worth 1.6 billion Pakistani rupees to the Communication and Works Department. The municipality is to provide the funds for the work, while the department will be the implementing agency. As Dawn reports, district administration representatives explained this by the corporation's lack of capacity to carry out the work independently.
The Divisional Development Working Party instructed that work begin as soon as possible and be completed by December 31. The department must also ensure the quality of construction materials.
Roads to be rehabilitated
The list includes the rehabilitation of the 1.6-km Khyaban-i-Sir Syed Road, costing 213.466 million rupees; the 1.5-km Bokra Road, costing 226.454 million rupees; and the 1.74-km 5th Road, costing 138.525 million rupees.
A two-kilometre section of Rawal Road from the Ali Nawaz intersection to Murree Road is also to be upgraded at a cost of 241.894 million rupees, as are the 0.8-km Chandani Chowk Commercial Market Road for 115.718 million rupees and the 1.2-km Railway Workshop Road for 247.871 million rupees.

Other facilities include the 1-km China Market-Gordon College Road, the 0.9-km Satellite Town 4th B Road, and the 2.4-km Band Khana Road. Their costs are 138.318 million, 141.007 million, and 214.417 million rupees, respectively.
Three more projects await approval
According to a district administration official, three major road projects of the Rawalpindi Development Authority and the district council have also been transferred to the Communication and Works Department. These are the reconstruction of Ch. Bostan Khan Road from Chaklala Scheme-III to the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court, Chakri Road, and the road to Falcon Chowk along the Islamabad Expressway.
These projects have been submitted to the Provincial Development Working Party for consideration. Work on them is to begin after approval, while funding will be provided by the relevant local authorities.
The official also said that during previous work on the pedestrian streets of Raja Bazaar and road works in 2024, the municipal corporation did not install a proper drainage system along the roads.
