Only 7 of 20 deployed doctors begin work in Ghana’s Bono Region — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana’s Bono Region, only seven of about 20 doctors sent there have begun work. Deputy Minister of Health Professor Grace Ayensu-Danquah stated this during a working visit to the region, MyJoyOnline reports.
Staffing problem
The official reported on the situation during a meeting with the Bono Regional Coordinating Council. She arrived in the region with a delegation led by Dr. Cardinal Newton, Chief Executive Officer of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss with key stakeholders the problems affecting the provision of healthcare services in the region. Ayensu-Danquah named the insufficient availability of housing as one of the main obstacles to deploying and retaining healthcare workers in Bono.

Support for the healthcare sector
On behalf of the Bono Regional Health Directorate, the deputy minister asked the coordinating council to support the healthcare sector. In particular, she requested assistance in mobilizing funding, resources and other measures. According to her, this will help strengthen healthcare service delivery and improve its quality for residents of the region.
Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa assured the delegation of the coordinating council’s readiness to support the healthcare sector. He promised to work with the relevant bodies to help resolve healthcare-sector problems within the council’s capacity.
