Russia wants to require all cars to be equipped with Russian software

The Russian government is drafting a law that would require the installation of a Russian operating system on imported vehicles.

This was announced by Anton Alikhanov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to him, this is necessary to prevent data leaks to foreign manufacturers’ servers and to strengthen “technological sovereignty.”

The “Aurora” system, developed by Rostelecom, is considered the most ready for implementation.

Initially, it is planned to be used in Russian cars, and later in foreign cars as well.

Alikhanov noted that a similar practice is already in place for smartphones and other devices.

They also plan to coordinate the matter with the FSB, the Ministry of Digital Development, and other agencies.

Additionally, a large-scale disruption in mobile communications has been reported in the Belgorod region. On March 18, authorities resorted to a complete shutdown of mobile internet for the first time.

Earlier, the St. Petersburg authorities officially announced the introduction of restrictions on mobile internet service, citing security measures as the reason.

Internet access was lost in the building of the State Duma of the Russian Federation amid widespread network restrictions in Moscow.
