Searches conducted in Rome in case of alleged manipulation of Lazio shares
In Rome, carabinieri conducted searches at premises linked to the management of Banca del Fucino as part of an investigation into alleged market manipulation. According to investigators, these actions may have been aimed at forcing Lazio football club president Claudio Lotito to leave his post.
People involved in the proceedings
As reported by ANSA English, Banca del Fucino president Mauro Masi, the bank’s chief executive Francesco Maiolini, and Luigi Bisignani, a former journalist expelled from the Italian professional journalists’ association, are under investigation. Prosecutors said the alleged manipulation began in June 2024 and, according to their information, is still ongoing.

Reports about Lazio
According to investigators, the three individuals may have been involved in spreading false reports that affected the value of Lazio shares. In particular, these included reports that Lotito planned to sell the club, as well as claims that he allegedly wanted to deliberately allow the team to be relegated from the top division in order to receive a €35 million payment that clubs obtain after relegation.
Lotito is also a senator from the centre-right Forza Italia party. According to ANSA, some Lazio supporters have been boycotting the team’s home matches since the middle of last season in an effort to secure the sale of the club. Masi said the case against him was based on a defamation complaint filed by Lotito, called the accusations completely false, and said he intended to file a counter-complaint for defamation.
