In Russia, the price of passenger planes for Putin has nearly doubled
The Russian government has significantly increased funding for the preferential leasing program for domestic passenger aircraft. Despite this, the number of aircraft planned has remained unchanged, and their delivery dates have been pushed back by several years.
The Tu-214, MC-21, and SJ-100 aircraft have seen the sharpest price increases. The cost of certain models has nearly doubled, while deliveries are now expected to be completed only by 2029 instead of the originally planned 2025.
At the same time, Aeroflot and its subsidiary, Rossiya Airlines—which were originally slated to receive the new aircraft—have been removed from the program. Despite the Kremlin’s bold promises to quickly replace Western Boeing and Airbus aircraft, Russian airlines have received only 12 SJ-100s and one Tu-214 over the past three years.
