Wreckage from a crashed drone was found near Suceava in Romania
On September 12, a crashed drone was found in a cornfield in the Botoșenița Mare area of Suceava County, Romania.
The drone’s collision with the ground caused a small fire and created a crater approximately one meter in diameter.
Prior to this, authorities had sent out a RO-Alert notification for Suceava County after Ukraine and Moldova reported the presence of the drone.
“On Saturday, September 12, the Air Operations Control Centers of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova informed the Ministry of National Defense that a drone had crossed the airspace of both countries, heading toward the northeastern part of Romania. Two F-16 fighter jets of the Romanian Air Force took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea to monitor the situation.”
The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the implementation of public alert measures in Botoșani County by sending a RO-Alert message at 4:20 p.m. At the same time, the 112 emergency service received a report of a drone flying over the village of Știubieni in Botoșani County.
“According to the results of a reconnaissance mission conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a crashed unmanned aerial vehicle was discovered in a cornfield in the Botoșenița Mare area of Suceava County. The crash caused a small fire and created a crater approximately one meter in diameter and 30 cm deep. No casualties were reported. “An SRI bomb squad is heading to the scene to assess the situation,” the Ministry of Defense reported, according to Digi24.
Earlier, Romanian F-16s took off to monitor targets near the border with Ukraine.
Prior to this, Romania had commented on rumors regarding the deployment of troops to Ukraine.
On the morning of August 30, an air raid alert was declared in part of Tulcea County, Romania, due to an unidentified aerial target near the border with Ukraine. To monitor the situation, the Romanian military scrambled two F-16 fighter jets.
On the evening of Monday, August 24, Romania scrambled two F-18 fighter jets from the Spanish Air and Space Forces after detecting two aerial targets moving toward the Romanian border.
