Seoul roads to close for fireworks festival and marathon
Roads in Seoul will be closed this weekend due to the International Fireworks Festival in the Yeouido area and the YTN Seoul Tour Marathon in the city center. Traffic restrictions will be in place near the Han River on Saturday and on several central thoroughfares in the South Korean capital on Sunday morning.
Restrictions near Yeouido
As The Korea Herald reports, Yeouido-ro between the southern end of Mapo Bridge and the 63 Building will be completely closed to traffic from 3:00 p.m. until midnight on Saturday. Wonhyo Bridge will be closed in both directions from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until 3:00 a.m. Sunday for the installation and dismantling of fireworks equipment.
The festival will run from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the main fireworks show beginning at 8:00 p.m. Authorities may restrict entry to Yeouido at certain access points depending on crowd numbers. After the event ends, one lane on Mapo and Hangang bridges may be designated for pedestrians.

The city plans to increase train frequency on subway lines 5 and 9. At the same time, Line 5 trains may not stop at Yeouinaru Station, and its entrances may be closed if crowds become too large. Passengers are advised to use Yeouido, Mapo, or Saetgang stations. Routes of 24 buses will also be temporarily changed because of the closures.
Marathon in the city center
On Sunday, the YTN Seoul Tour Marathon will start at Seoul Plaza. Participants will run along Sejong-daero, Jongno, Eulji-ro, and beside Cheonggyecheon, after which the route will head toward Mugyo-ro. The program includes 11-kilometer and half-marathon races.
Sections of Sejong-daero will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Eulji-ro between the Euljiro 1-ga and Euljiro 3-ga intersections will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. Traffic on certain sections of Cheonggyecheon-ro will be restricted in stages from 7:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. while runners pass through. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, about 1,610 police officers and volunteer traffic controllers will be deployed to organize detours and manage traffic.
