In Sweden, the captain of the sanctioned vessel Jin Hui was released from custody
The Swedish Prosecutor’s Office has released the Chinese captain of the Jin Hui from custody; he had been held since early May on suspicion of using a forged document regarding the vessel’s ownership. Despite the captain’s release, the official criminal investigation into the alleged serious offense is still ongoing.
Swedish prosecutor Agneta Rus explained the decision to release him by stating that, at this stage, law enforcement no longer has sufficient legal grounds to keep the man behind bars.
The background to the case is that, prior to the arrest, the Swedish Coast Guard had been tracking the Jin Hui’s movements for an extended period of time. As a result of their investigation, Swedish intelligence agencies determined that the vessel is on several international sanctions lists, including those of the European Union and the United Kingdom.
This was reported by the Sweden Herald.
In Sweden, the captain of the detained oil tanker Jin Hui, which may be linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” has been arrested. The Chinese citizen is suspected of using forged documents and violating maritime regulations regarding the vessel’s seaworthiness.
Earlier, Swedish police officially seized the vessel Caffa, which had been held in the country’s territorial waters for two months.
