Xinjiang Launches Its First Refrigerated Express Service for Fruit Transportation

A freight train carrying more than 200 metric tons of fresh plums departed Monday from the city of Aksu in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is headed for Jiaxing in Zhejiang Province. The trip marked the launch of the region’s first express rail service for transporting local fresh fruit while maintaining the cold chain, according to ECNS.

Xinjiang’s railway authorities, in collaboration with China Railway Special Cargo Logistics Co., Ltd., have established a direct refrigerated transport corridor to deliver fruit from the southern part of the region to the Yangtze River Delta market. Refrigerated containers are used for the shipments.

In particular, the route is intended to facilitate the distribution of apples from Aksu and plums from Jiaxi County throughout the country. The containers allow for round-the-clock monitoring of the cargo’s temperature, humidity, and location. Customers can monitor these metrics via a mobile app.

Operators have optimized the loading process to take less than four hours. According to their data, this has increased efficiency by more than 20% and enables same-day shipment. From January through July, Xinjiang’s railways transported 145 million metric tons of cargo, a 3.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
