The U.S. has commented on the prospects for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia

Washington believes that there is no military solution to the war between Ukraine and Russia, but the prospects for a peaceful resolution remain difficult at this time. The U.S. side notes that the parties to the conflict’s unwillingness to make the necessary compromises is hindering the achievement of agreements.

According to the Secretary of State, the United States has been working for a long time to bring the parties to the negotiating table and facilitate a diplomatic resolution to the war.

At the same time, he acknowledged that these efforts have not yet yielded the desired results.

"Unfortunately, to date, neither side, especially Russia, has shown a willingness to make the concessions necessary to establish peace," Rubio stated.

He emphasized that Washington does not see a military solution to the war and believes it can only be ended through diplomatic means.

"We remain ready to play whatever role we can in this context of establishing peace, as we believe that the war in Ukraine, a devastating war, has no military solution," the Secretary of State added.

Rubio explained the U.S. role in the war

Rubio also emphasized that the United States is not a neutral mediator in the war.

According to him, Washington continues to supply weapons to Ukraine and maintains sanctions pressure on Russia.

"We do not supply weapons to Russia. We supply weapons only to Ukraine. We do not impose sanctions against Ukraine. We impose sanctions only against Russia. So, we have clearly chosen a side," he emphasized.

In addition, the Secretary of State noted that the U.S. continues to provide support to Ukraine through the PURL program, regardless of other international events or conflicts.

Negotiations remain difficult

According to Rubio, there are currently no signs that either side is ready to make the concessions necessary to reach a peace agreement.

"At the moment, the prospects do not look very optimistic that either side is ready to make the concessions necessary to reach an agreement," he said.

At the same time, Washington is ready to continue participating in any diplomatic initiatives that could help end the war.

"We are ready to step in and play whatever positive role we can to put an end to this devastating war, which is gaining momentum," the U.S. Secretary of State concluded.

This was reported with reference to a statement by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a hearing in the House of Representatives.
