A large-scale strike by healthcare workers took place in the Romanian capital
In Bucharest, the capital of Romania, thousands of healthcare workers took to the streets to protest a proposed wage calculation law.
More than 10,000 medical and care workers from Bucharest and other regions of the country took part in the protest. Participants claim that the new salary calculation system could lead to a reduction in income for about 60% of workers in the sector.
The demonstration began at Victory Square, after which a column of protesters marched toward the parliament building.
Protesters are demanding a substantial revision of the bill and are also drawing the government’s attention to other issues in the healthcare sector.
Trade union representatives warned that they are prepared to continue the protests in the coming days and do not rule out calling a general strike.
