Trump stated that Iran had agreed to the U.S. demand not to develop nuclear weapons
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that, as part of ongoing diplomatic talks, Tehran has agreed to Washington’s non-negotiable demand to completely abandon the development and acquisition of nuclear weapons.
Commenting on the complex negotiation process aimed at resolving the large-scale security crisis in the region, the White House chief emphasized that reaching this agreement was a fundamental and top priority for the U.S.
Trump noted that the Iranian side had already given its official consent to this key condition, though he added with his characteristic skepticism that they theoretically “could change their minds,” but formalizing this position is a major step forward. The White House also confirmed the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding, in which this provision will be legally enshrined.
In addition, Donald Trump specifically noted the direct involvement in the peace talks of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who took the helm of the country following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. The U.S. president stated that Washington and Tehran are currently “getting along quite well” at the leadership level, and expressed a clear desire to hold a personal bilateral meeting with the Ayatollah in the near future if the diplomatic track progresses successfully.

Earlier, Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries among personnel and damage to U.S. drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. efforts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and continues to interact with his inner circle, although he does so cautiously and primarily through written messages and intermediaries. Officials in Washington note that his activity has been increasing recently.
