Russians Detained in Thailand Over Luxury Real Estate Schemes

Thai authorities have begun inspections of real estate properties linked to the so-called “Russian villages.” In Chonburi Province, law enforcement officials detained four Russian citizens as part of an investigation into possible violations of the law during transactions involving luxury real estate.

Police conducted searches at 41 addresses and seized documents, accounting records, computers, and phones. The investigation concerns residential complexes with a total value of approximately $154 million that were advertised as “Russian villages.”

Law enforcement officials are investigating whether Thai citizens were used as nominal owners of companies to conceal foreign control over the businesses and circumvent restrictions on land ownership.

This was reported by The Nation.
