Cleanup efforts are underway at several locations:
- at the marine terminal where the spill occurred;
- at the mouth of the Tuapse River;
- along the coastline and at the central beach.
Six cascades of boom barriers have been installed at the river mouth, along with special equipment for collecting oil products. Contamination is being removed from the water using excavators, among other methods.
About 700 meters of boom barriers have been installed on the central beach to prevent the oil slick from spreading into the Black Sea. Work is ongoing around the clock.
The spill occurred after Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot. The attack damaged the terminal’s infrastructure, causing a fire and a leak of petroleum products into the river and the sea.
Specialists are continuing efforts to contain and mitigate the effects of the pollution.
