Turkey will establish restricted zones and deploy security forces for the NATO summit

Unprecedented security measures will be implemented in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, during the 36th NATO Summit, which will take place on July 7–8, 2026. The country’s authorities plan to establish special “red zones” around key facilities and the routes used by international delegations.

Roads leading to Esenboğa Airport and Etimesgut Airport, the Çöşözü district where the Turkish Presidential Complex is located, as well as the areas surrounding the hotels where summit participants will be staying, will be subject to special security controls.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic in these areas will be strictly controlled, and access to certain sections may be temporarily restricted.

In connection with the summit, a ban on demonstrations, mass gatherings, and marches will be in effect in Ankara from July 1 to 15.

To maintain order, Turkish authorities will deploy approximately 40,000 police and gendarmerie personnel. In addition, plainclothes law enforcement officers will be on duty in the city.

There are also plans to install additional surveillance cameras at 100 strategic locations, which will strengthen the existing security monitoring system.

During the summit, Turkish authorities will impose restrictions on certain international flights and tighten security checks at entry points to the capital.

Separate security plans are being developed for cultural events and excursions in which the spouses of heads of state and government attending the Alliance meeting will participate.

Preparations for the event are being carried out with the experience of last year’s NATO summit in mind, which brought together about 6,000 participants.

This year’s forum is expected to be one of the largest international events hosted by Turkey in recent years, so security has been identified as a top priority for the organizers.

This was reported by TRT Haber.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that one of the outcomes of the NATO summit, to be held on July 7–8 in Ankara, could be a decision to strengthen anti-ballistic defense. According to him, Ukraine will be represented at the meeting and is counting on important security agreements.

U.S. President Donald Trump will personally attend the NATO summit, which will take place in Turkey on July 7–8. This was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a speech before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. According to him, Washington intends to raise the issue of reforming the Alliance and increasing the defense spending of allied countries.
