Relations between Meloni and Trump have warmed up following the spring conflict – Corriere della Sera
On June 17, Italian media highlighted the first meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni following their spring conflict. According to media reports, bilateral relations are showing signs of improvement.
After the first G7 working session, which took place during a dinner with other heads of state and government, Meloni told her entourage that a genuine thaw had begun in her relationship with Donald Trump.
Meloni said that her first meeting with the U.S. president following the conflict that had lasted for the past few months went well.
“Everything went well with Trump,” she said.
Meloni did not specify what topics she discussed with Trump, but she made it clear that the conflict of recent months—including the personal one—would soon be considered a thing of the past by both her and the U.S. president.
Signs of a thaw in relations between Meloni and Trump became more evident on the second day of the summit in Eviana, when the two leaders took center stage before the start of a working lunch focused on Iran.
The Italian prime minister approached the White House leader, who was already speaking with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz; they were later joined by European Council President António Costa.
“You left me…,” Trump said, addressing Meloni. Meloni immediately replied, “We’ve always been friends!”
