Teachers in Ghana demand payment of arrears for 2012–2015
In Ghana, an association of teachers seeking payment of arrears for 2012–2015 is demanding that the authorities settle the unpaid funds. According to the association, many educators have been waiting for years for payments owed to them, and the delay is causing financial difficulties. Appeal to the Mahama administration
The group appealed to the administration of President John Mahama, calling on it to resolve the issue and ensure payment of the arrears to teachers. It also asks the president to intervene personally and take measures so that the funds are paid without further delays.
The association noted that John Mahama's previous introduction of a three-month payment policy demonstrated his understanding of the problems that payment delays cause for workers. The teachers called on the authorities to treat their demand as a priority and consider the circumstances of people who have been waiting a long time for funds owed to them.

Statements about the NPP's promise
The association also recalled that during the 2016 election campaign, the then-opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) acknowledged the existence of the arrears and promised to settle them if it won the election. According to the association, the arrears were not settled during the NPP's time in power.
The appeal comes amid demands by public-sector workers and organized trade unions for Ghana's governments to fulfill financial obligations and pay overdue funds.
