Hungary may amend its LGBT+ law following the EU Court's ruling
Marta Horog, the nominee for justice minister, stated that Hungary will have to revise the law restricting access to LGBT+ content. According to her, changes may be necessary following a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union, which found that the current regulations violate EU law.
She made these remarks on Tuesday, May 12, before a parliamentary committee, Reuters reports.
This refers to an initiative previously supported by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government that restricted the distribution of certain content to minors.
Horog stated that Hungary will have to revise this law.
“Hungary is a member of the European Union, which means that Hungary has certain obligations. This means that, in light of this court ruling, the Ministry of Justice must make the necessary legal amendments,” she said.
The candidate for the position of Minister of Justice also emphasized that Hungarian legislation cannot exist in isolation and must reflect international and European legal standards, in particular the shared values of the EU.
Hungaryhas announced it will stop exerting pressure within the EU – Bloomberg.
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Hungary has returned to Ukraine the funds and assets of Oschadbank that were seized by Hungarian special services in March of this year.
Earlier, Hungary’s future Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that the issue of returning the frozen Ukrainian funds of Oschadbank would only be subject to negotiations after the new government is officially formed.
