Hungary will allocate more than 16 billion euros in EU funds to transportation, education, and energy — Magyar

The Hungarian government has outlined the main areas for the use of more than 16 billion euros in European funds, which Brussels is prepared to release following reforms in the areas of the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

This was reported by Telex.

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that it took the new government only a few weeks to meet the requirements that the previous administration, led by Viktor Orbán, had failed to implement for a long time.

According to him, Budapest has agreed to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, strengthen the powers of integrity authorities, amend public procurement rules, and gradually phase out public asset management funds.

Mátyás also announced that starting next academic year, Hungarian students will once again have access to the Erasmus academic exchange program.

About 4.2 billion euros are planned to be allocated to regional development, specifically transportation infrastructure, healthcare, social and environmental projects, as well as support for small and medium-sized businesses.

Another €2.2 billion will go toward education and the development of higher education institutions. Separately, the government intends to invest €1.5 billion in the modernization of power grids.

The funds are also planned to be used for the purchase of new trains, the digitization of public services, support for entrepreneurship, and addressing the housing crisis, particularly through the construction of social housing.

According to Mádár, the €16.4 billion represents approximately 13% of Hungary’s gross domestic product.

Hungary is completely blocking agricultural imports from Ukraine.

Earlier, the Hungarian government commented on the massive attack by Russian drones on Transcarpathia, during which the region’s critical infrastructure was struck. Budapest described the situation in the border region as extremely alarming and announced that it was preparing urgent countermeasures.
