The Ukrainian Embassy in Belgium has appealed to local authorities in Enghien to prevent the screening of a propaganda film. The film in question is scheduled to be shown on April 22 and, according to diplomats, distorts the facts regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
This is stated in a press release published by the embassy on Facebook.
“The Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Belgium expresses serious concern regarding the planned screening of the documentary film ‘Ukraine, Russia: Behind the Smoke Screen," scheduled for April 22, 2026," the statement reads, noting that the event is organized by the Kairos Presse agency under the leadership of Alexandre Penasse, whose activities are linked to the dissemination of conspiracy theories and pro-Russian narratives.
The embassy noted that this initiative is part of a broader scheme to introduce disinformation related to Russian military aggression against Ukraine into the public sphere in Belgium and Europe. They also noted that similar events in Ixelles (January 31, 2026) and Voluvé-Saint-Pierre (March 19, 2026) were canceled after local authorities intervened.
Diplomats emphasize that the aforementioned documentary distorts the reality of Russian military aggression against Ukraine, misrepresents the situation in the temporarily occupied territories, and promotes narratives aimed at undermining international support for Ukraine.
The film was produced following a trip to the Russian Federation and the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. Such activities, carried out without the consent of the Ukrainian authorities, constitute a violation of Ukrainian law and international law.
“The continued promotion of such content blurs the line between facts and disinformation and undermines informed public discourse. Providing a platform for narratives that relativize aggression and obscure responsibility for war crimes undermines the integrity of the democratic information space and contributes to the spread of disinformation,” the Ukrainian Embassy stated.
According to the diplomats, at a time when Europe is facing coordinated disinformation campaigns, such initiatives require particular vigilance and a decisive response.
“The Embassy of Ukraine calls on the competent authorities to take appropriate measures within their powers, including canceling this event, to prevent the spread and legitimization of disinformation in the public sphere,” the statement reads.
