The far-right AfD has become the most popular party in Germany — Die Welt

According to the results of the latest poll by the YouGov polling institute, the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) has officially become the most popular party among Germans.

Die Welt reports on this.

Currently, 27% of respondents are ready to cast their votes for this political force, which is the highest figure in its history.

The far-right party’s rating has risen by one percentage point in just the last month.

This comes amid a rapid loss of confidence in the current coalition government, reflecting a deep crisis among the country’s traditional political forces.

The ruling CDU/CSU bloc, led by Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, lost three percentage points at once, dropping to 23%.

For the conservative alliance, this is the worst result in the last five years, dating back to December 2021.

The situation looks even more challenging for the coalition partners. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) currently has the support of only 13% of voters, indicating serious disappointment among the electorate with the center-left’s actions.

The Greens and The Left are holding steady at 14% and 10%, respectively, having seen only a slight increase of one percentage point.

However, these figures are not enough to offset the overall decline in popularity of the current governing coalition.
