Universities of Limassol and Crete sign memorandum — Cyprus Mail
The University of Limassol and the University of Crete signed a memorandum of cooperation during a ceremony on August 26, 2026, in the Senate Hall of the Gallos campus in Rethymno. The document creates an institutional framework for joint initiatives by the two institutions based on equality, mutual trust and compliance with applicable legislation.
Areas of cooperation
As Cyprus Mail reports, the memorandum provides for exchanges of academic staff and students, mutual participation in research and educational programmes, as well as the exchange of academic information and scientific resources. The universities also agreed to jointly organise academic, scientific and cultural events.
A separate provision of the agreement concerns the development of joint study programmes, seminars and professional development activities. These will be implemented by the University of Crete's Centre for Lifelong Learning, KEDIVIM. The report notes that the cooperation is intended to expand the centre's educational activities and strengthen its ties with educational and academic institutions outside Greece.

Ceremony participants
The ceremony was addressed by University of Limassol Rector Professor Theodoros Panayiotou, University of Crete Vice Rector for Lifelong Learning and Research Policy Professor M. Vamvakaki, University of Limassol Executive Director Dr Panayiotis Sentonis, and KEDIVIM Director, Professor of Political Science N. Papadakis.
The Municipality of Rethymno was represented by Deputy Mayor for Education, Lifelong Learning, Youth and Sports Nikolaos Provias. University of Limassol Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities Professor Maria Sakellariou and University of Crete Professor of Primary Education Konstantinos Karras presented the provisions of the memorandum. The signing of the document formalised the universities' intention to systematically develop joint activities in education, research, professional development and culture.
