Yemen government bans import and circulation of all Iranian goods
Yemen’s internationally recognized government has decided to ban the import and circulation of all Iranian goods and products. Anadolu Agency reports, citing the state-run Saba agency.
Committee decision
The ban was approved by the National Committee for the Regulation and Financing of Imports at a meeting chaired by Yemen Central Bank Governor Ahmed Ghalib, who also heads the committee.
In a statement, the committee said the decision was made in accordance with the requirements of higher national interests. The relevant authorities were instructed to take the necessary measures to enforce the ban within their powers and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The statement did not specify when the ban would take effect and provided no further details about the Iranian goods to which it would apply.
Escalation of hostilities
The decision was made amid a sharp escalation in hostilities between Yemen’s internationally recognized government and the Iran-backed Houthi group. The Yemeni government accuses Tehran of providing military and financial support to the Houthis, while Iran denies this.
The Houthis seized Sanaa and large parts of Yemen in 2014. They are backed by Iran, while government forces are supported by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition. Hostilities have intensified since July after a period of relative calm that had largely persisted since a UN-mediated truce was reached in April 2022.
