Fico's government could be forced to resign
In Slovakia, Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government must face a vote of confidence in parliament following a ruling by the country’s Constitutional Court.
The reason is that the national debt has exceeded the threshold set by law. According to official data, Slovakia’s debt has reached 61.4% of GDP, which triggered the constitutional mechanisms for overseeing government activities.
The Constitutional Court ordered the Cabinet to immediately initiate a vote of confidence in parliament. This decision is unprecedented in Slovak politics.
If the government fails to secure the support of a majority of lawmakers, this could lead to its resignation and a subsequent political crisis in the country.
