The Israeli government has severed contacts with Kallas
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced that he was severing ties with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
According to Saar, Kaja Kallas allegedly “acts with obsession and blatant injustice toward the State of Israel.”
He also claims that during a visit to Mexico, she compared Israel to the “racist apartheid regime” in South Africa.
The Israeli minister noted that Kallas has provided no retraction or explanation regarding these statements. In this regard, he stated:
“I have no choice but to sever all ties with Ms. Kallas until she retracts the slander directed against the world’s only Jewish state, which is also the only democracy in the Middle East. And that is exactly what I am doing,” Saar emphasized.
In response, Kaya Kallas stated that the EU and Israel share common interests and must maintain dialogue. She emphasized:
“I highly value our dialogue and cooperation and am ready to continue them in this spirit—with respect and in a constructive manner. Dialogue is the foundation of diplomacy, especially when differences arise.”
Kallas also stressed that the EU supports the two-state solution as the only path to peace in the Middle East and condemns Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which hinder the achievement of this goal.
Earlier, it was reported that Kallas had allegedly made a controversial comparison during a visit to Mexico, as reported by media outlets citing sources.
