An arrest warrant has been issued in Moldova for oligarch Shor in connection with the $100 million case

A court in Chisinau has ordered the 30-day detention in absentia of fugitive Moldovan oligarch Ilan Shor, who is suspected of involvement in the large-scale embezzlement of funds from Banca de Economii.

According to investigators, Shor, who chaired the bank’s board of directors in 2013–2014, may have organized and coordinated the activities of a criminal group that siphoned off approximately $100 million from the financial institution.

The prosecutor’s office believes that through entities under his control and intermediaries, he influenced the operations of financial institutions and ensured the adoption of decisions necessary to carry out the scheme. According to the investigation, forged documents were used to transfer the funds.

Shora is accused of organizing and participating in the embezzlement of assets on an exceptionally large scale as part of an organized group.

Earlier in this case, the former acting chairman of Banca de Economii was sentenced to 10 years in prison. His appeal is currently being considered by the court.
