In Britain, two men were convicted of spying for China

A court in the United Kingdom has convicted two men of spying on Hong Kong dissidents on behalf of Chinese intelligence agencies.

Chun Biu Yuen, 66, received an eight-year prison sentence for aiding foreign intelligence. His accomplice, Chi Leung Wai, 41, was sentenced to ten years in prison. He was also found guilty of abuse of office while working for the UK Border Agency.

According to the investigation, the men monitored Hong Kong dissidents from December 2023 to May 2024.

It is noted that this is the first case in the United Kingdom in which individuals have been convicted of spying for China.

Both defendants, who hold dual Chinese-British citizenship, pleaded not guilty. The Chinese Embassy in London called the case politically motivated.
