The Hungarian government is dismissing large numbers of Foreign Ministry officials who worked with Szijjártó

The new Hungarian government has launched a major reorganization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dismissing officials who worked with the ministry’s former head, Péter Szijjártó

The decision was made following the results of an internal audit due to the country’s loss of international trust.

Currently, a decision has been made to initiate the termination of employment by mutual agreement with 45 civil servants.

The official emphasized that the personnel changes affect only a few dozen people out of more than a thousand ministry employees.

The dismissals apply exclusively to those officials who, under Péter Szijjártó’s leadership, were directly involved in the political management of the foreign ministry.

The new administration holds this team responsible for Budapest’s serious diplomatic failures on the international stage in recent years.

“They were directly involved in the process that led to Hungary losing its reputation, losing the trust of its allies, finding itself on the periphery of the European Union, and losing the trust of its most important partners. We met with every employee affected by this decision personally, looked them in the eye, and explained the reasons for our decision,” said György Velki.

Currently, 38 Hungarian officials have officially accepted the government’s terms and agreed to resign.

A ministry representative denies political persecution of opponents, emphasizing a humane approach to the process of dismissing former officials.

“This is not a purge, but a fair and humane approach, as well as support for those who have suffered daily from what has been happening in the ministry in recent years—whether as diplomats suspended from duty or as ordinary citizens,” the official concluded.

The start of institutional changes was officially announced by György Velki, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in his video address on Facebook.

Mátyás is ready to meet with Zelenskyy next week, but there is a condition

The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Hungary, Andriy Sibiga and Anita Orbán, held their first in-person meeting on May 22. During the talks in Helsingborg, the parties agreed to hold a second round of expert-level consultations next week to further discuss bilateral issues.

Earlier, the Hungarian government commented on the massive attack by Russian drones on Zakarpattia, during which the region’s critical infrastructure was struck. Budapest described the situation in the border region as extremely alarming and announced that it was preparing urgent countermeasures.
