European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, following a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed Europe’s full support for Ukraine amid escalating Russian aggression.

According to her, during the talks, the parties discussed defense aid, financial support, and Ukraine’s path toward European Union membership.
Von der Leyen emphasized that strengthening air defense systems, developing counter-drone capabilities, and anti-drone technologies remain among Europe’s key priorities.
She emphasized that Ukraine will be fully involved in these defense initiatives.
Separately, the European Commission President mentioned financial support for Kyiv. According to her, a loan to support Ukraine will help cover the country’s military needs, and this year alone, the amount of aid will total 28.3 billion euros.
Ursula von der Leyen also stated that the coming weeks will be crucial for taking decisive steps in Ukraine’s EU accession process.

The European Commission plans to propose on June 16 to open the first cluster of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union.
