Sandu's administration responded to the letter found at the landfill
The office of Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that it has no connection to the document recently discovered at a landfill. Officials noted that the document is an eight-year-old letter containing materials from another agency, for which the current administration cannot be held responsible.
The comments from Sandu’s administration came after posts on social media by an unidentified author claiming that among the items found at a landfill in Chisinau were official documents that had once been sent from the presidential administration.
The administration noted that the video shows an envelope from 2018 (when Igor Dodon, not Sandu, was president) bearing post office stamps, and that it was the recipient’s responsibility to ensure the preservation or destruction of the documents.
“The Office of the President of Moldova handles official documents strictly in accordance with applicable law and internal rules for registration, routing, archiving, and security, ensuring the proper administration of each document throughout its entire retention period,” the administration noted in a statement, according to Newsmaker.
Earlier, Sandu addressed whether Moldova could forcibly reclaim Transnistria.
As a reminder, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned its citizens about heightened checks, hours-long interrogations, and instances of coercion to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense when attempting to enter Russian territory.
Moldova wants to use peace talks with Russia to reclaim Transnistria.
