Protests have erupted in Albania over a project linked to the Trump family

Mass protests have erupted in Albania over plans to build a luxury resort in which Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Trump, is reportedly involved. Amid the public outcry, an investigation into the project has also been launched in the country. This was reported by Tagesschau.

“Plans to build a luxury resort in Albania, in which U.S. President Trump’s son-in-law is involved, have sparked protests. The Special Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into this construction project,” the report states.

In the capital, Tirana, thousands of people took to the streets with signs reading “Albania is not for sale” and “Ivanka, go home,” referring to Kushner’s wife, Ivanka Trump, the U.S. president’s daughter. One of the protesters’ main demands was to halt the resort construction project on Sazan Island due to concerns about potential environmental impacts and corruption risks.

Albania’s Special Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime announced the launch of an investigation into the project.

According to the publication, Kushner’s company, Atlantic Incubation Partners LLC, plans to invest 1.4 billion euros in Albania. Critics accuse Kushner and his wife of using the Trump presidency to advance their business interests.

Last year, Albanian authorities facilitated the project by granting Kushner “strategic investor” status under a government program to develop the economy through tourism.

Sazan Island, where construction is planned, was previously used exclusively as a military base, the publication notes.
