Rising freight costs as gas tankers stuck in the Persian Gulf

According to ship brokers, at least 20 gas tanker vessels, comprising about half of the global fleet, are currently stuck in the Persian Gulf. Daily freight expenses have sharply increased due to rising demand from Asian markets — rates have surged from under $98,000 before hostilities in Iran to over $200,000.

The delay of a significant portion of gas tankers in this strategic region could disrupt global natural gas supplies. The soaring freight rates reflect the increased demand for energy resources, especially from Asian countries, potentially leading to further market tensions.

Moving forward, fluctuations in transportation costs and delays in deliveries are expected to continue, impacting global energy supply chains.
