Enhertu reimbursement approved in England — TimesLIVE
In England, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has approved reimbursement for Enhertu for National Health Service patients with metastatic HER2-low breast cancer. The decision expands access to treatment that has been available in Scotland since 2023, TimesLIVE reports, citing Reuters.
Who will have access to treatment
AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo said that about 1,000 women will be eligible for the therapy each year. This concerns patients with HER2-low metastatic breast cancer. The level of the HER2 protein in tumours may vary; this protein contributes to tumour growth and spread.
Enhertu funding in England had previously been rejected due to an assessment of cost-effectiveness. The companies did not disclose the terms of their agreement with NICE. The stated UK price of the drug is £1,455 per 100 mg vial.

Study data and further applications
Enhertu delivers chemotherapy directly to tumours identified by the HER2 marker while sparing healthy cells. The drug has already been approved in several countries for the treatment of certain types of breast, stomach and lung cancers.
NICE based its recommendation on data from a 2022 study, according to which Enhertu extended survival by about six months in some patients. AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo also plan to seek authorisation for access to the drug from health authorities in Wales and Northern Ireland.
