Three security officers killed in raid in Syria — Asharq Al-Awsat
Three members of the Internal Security Forces were killed and several others were wounded during a security raid in the city of Al-Sanamayn in Syria’s southern Daraa province. The operation was conducted to detain a wanted individual, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.
Clash with an armed group
According to a statement by the Internal Security Forces, an armed group attacked a patrol during the operation and exchanged fire with its personnel. A government source said it was an illegal armed formation led by the wanted man.
After the clash, security personnel deployed across the city to search for members of the group and imposed a temporary curfew in Al-Sanamayn. A local government source told Agence France-Presse that the wanted man who clashed with law enforcement belonged to this group.

Statement on links to ISIS
The Internal Security Forces said through official channels that the operation in Al-Sanamayn was ongoing. They stated that they had surrounded the location where the group was hiding and gave its members time to surrender, but they did not respond. Security personnel then raided their location.
The Internal Security Forces also claim that the group was linked to the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS). The publication notes that ISIS cells remain in southern Syria, although the group’s main presence was concentrated in the north, northeast of the country and the Badia desert region. In 2022, ISIS announced the death of its leader Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi; it later became known that this happened during fighting in Daraa province.
