In Argentina, a 750-meter-long sandwich was dismantled before the Guinness World Record could be set
In the Argentine city of Avellaneda, an attempt to set a world record for the longest sandwich ended in an unexpected incident. Event attendees began tearing into the sandwich before representatives from the Guinness World Records had a chance to verify the result.
The organizers aimed to break the 2011 record by creating a 750-meter-long sandwich. The event was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the El Tano steakhouse and the celebration of the May Revolution.
About 1,500 kilograms of meat, over a thousand loaves of bread, tomato sauce, ham, mozzarella, and other ingredients were used to make it. In total, they planned to distribute over 7,000 servings.
About 30,000 people attended the event, which was heavily promoted on social media. However, due to delays in preparing the sandwiches until the afternoon, dissatisfaction began to grow among the visitors.
Around 4:00 p.m., while the chefs were still finishing their work, part of the crowd broke through the barrier and rushed toward the tables. People began tearing apart the sandwich, causing a scuffle and chaos.
Due to the incident, official confirmation of the new record by the Guinness World Records was called into question.
