Australian man, 28, charged after alleged stabbing of store worker

In Glenorchy, a suburb of Hobart, Australia, a 28-year-old man has been charged after the alleged stabbing of a Spotlight store employee. Another man was detained and remains in custody.

Incident near the store

As ABC News Australia reports, police were called to the store on Howard Road at about 1:35 p.m. on Sunday. According to law enforcement, two men approached the rear of the store and allegedly stole merchandise.

Police said an employee approached them after the alleged theft, after which he was attacked. The victim was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where he was treated for a minor stab wound. The employee was later discharged from hospital.

Charges and detention

Police detained two men overnight. One of them, aged 28, was charged with wounding, common assault and stealing, as well as offences related to drugs and bail conditions.

The man was remanded in custody and is due to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday. The second detainee is assisting police with the investigation and has not been charged at this time.
