Man charged in Australia after alleged carjacking involving infant
In Australia, a 51-year-old resident of Swan Hill has been charged in connection with the alleged theft of a car containing a seven-month-old infant. The incident occurred in Beverford in northwestern Victoria, ABC News Australia reports.
Incident circumstances
According to Victoria Police, shortly after 11:00 on Wednesday, a man stopped a female motorist on the Murray Valley Highway in Beverford, about 17 kilometres northwest of Swan Hill. Investigators allege that the 36-year-old woman got out of her Holden Commodore to help him, after which a struggle occurred between them.
Police say the man took possession of the vehicle. The seven-month-old child who was in the car was later found by a passer-by nearby on the shoulder of the highway. The infant was unharmed, while the woman sustained minor injuries during the struggle. Both were taken to hospital.

Arrest and charges
The vehicle was later found abandoned in bushland near Pyre Road in Nyah, about 10 kilometres from the site of the alleged theft. The man was arrested several hours later.
He was charged with a number of offences, including car theft, child abduction, unlawful assault and breaching bail conditions. He appeared before the Kerang Magistrates' Court on Thursday. The court remanded the accused in custody until his next appearance at the Mildura Magistrates' Court in December.
