Zeinab Ahmad Denied Bail in Australia for the Second Time
In Australia, the Court of Appeal of the state of Victoria upheld the decision to deny Zeinab Ahmad release on bail. This was Ahmad’s second attempt to obtain bail in this case.

As ABC News Australia reports, Ahmad’s previous bail application was rejected in June. Justice James Elliott concluded that if released, Ahmad would pose an unacceptable risk. He also noted that the conditions of her detention were commensurate with the nature of the charges brought against her.

Nature of the charges
Ahmad is accused of enslaving and using a female slave. According to ABC News Australia, the charges concern possessing a female slave during the period when Ahmad supported the Islamic State group in Syria.
According to the prosecution, Ahmad’s father bought a Yazidi teenager as a slave in 2017. It is alleged that Ahmad mistreated the girl and ordered her to perform household work.
