In the British county of Essex, the new Reform UK administration has removed the Ukrainian flag from the county council building, where it had been flying since March 2022.
A second British flag was installed on the facade in place of the Ukrainian flag. Council Chairman Peter Harris called it a “moment of pride” and stated that the decision does not mean a withdrawal of support for Ukraine from the county’s residents.
At the same time, this decision drew criticism from the opposition. Conservative leader on the council Lee Scott stated that such a move sends the “wrong signal” and could contribute to the spread of pro-Kremlin sentiments.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, commenting on the situation, stated that foreign flags should not fly over public buildings, in accordance with the party’s policy.
Reform UK won the local elections in Essex, ending 25 years of Conservative dominance in the county.
Already, 41 Labour Party MPs have publicly called on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to step down as party leader.
Earlier, Starmer had spoken of growing tensions in relations with the United States.
