In Estonia, a drone from Russia crashed into a power plant
On the night of Tuesday, March 25, a drone that had veered off course crashed into the chimney of a power plant in the Estonian town of Auvere.
ERR reported on the incident.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred at 3:43 a.m. No one was injured as a result of the collision.
It is noted that the drone entered Estonian airspace from Russian territory. Bomb disposal experts from the Rescue Department are working at the scene, and the Security Police Department is conducting the investigation under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutor General Astrid Asi stated: “Based on the information currently available, the drone was not targeting Estonia. Initial steps are being taken, and the investigation will clarify the exact circumstances.”
According to preliminary estimates by Enefit Power, the power plant did not sustain significant damage, and the incident will not affect the operation of the country’s power grid.
At the same time, Margus Pallonen, Director General of the Security Police, emphasized that such incidents could recur amid Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine: “This is a consequence of Russia’s full-scale war of aggression. It can be assumed that similar incidents will recur.”
In Latvia, a violation of airspace was recorded by a foreign drone, which, according to preliminary data, flew in from Russian territory.
The drone that crossed Lithuanian airspace on Monday and subsequently crashed and exploded in the Varėna district was Ukrainian. This was confirmed by Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.
The Lithuanian Minister of Defense will visit Ukraine to accelerate joint defense projects.
