Telegram has been blocked in India following a leak of exam questions
The Indian Ministry of Education has officially suspended the messaging app due to its widespread use by malicious actors to organize fraudulent schemes and deceive prospective medical students as they prepared for the national medical school entrance exam.
Access to the popular service was restricted under a strict provision of the Information Technology Act for a clearly defined minimum period.
The government’s drastic move came in the wake of a major scandal in which the government completely invalidated the results of the National Medical Entrance Exam after exam questions were leaked online, sparking massive student protests across the country. To resolve the crisis, government officials scheduled a retest for June 21, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself rejects accusations by civil society activists regarding restrictions on freedom of speech and insists on protecting the public interest. The current intervention is unprecedented in scale, as India is Telegram’s largest global market by number of downloads.

Meanwhile, the Sands messenger is gaining particular relevance, offering a fundamentally new level of security. This platform was developed with modern cyberespionage risks in mind and provides reliable data protection thanks to innovative user authentication methods.
