An Israeli citizen was detained in India’s Himachal Pradesh state after a cartridge with ammunition was found in his luggage during a check at Kangra Airport. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post, citing Indian media and police.

Cartridge found during screening

Kangra district Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said the cartridge was discovered during a security check on Tuesday. According to him, a case was registered at the Gaggal police station under Section 25(1)(A) of India’s Arms Act of 1959, and the man was detained.

As The Tribune India writes, the detainee said he was unaware of the cartridge in his bag. According to the outlet, he used this luggage while serving in the Israel Defense Forces.

Investigation continues

Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the man obtained the cartridge and plan to continue legal procedures in accordance with the law. According to The Jerusalem Post, after questioning and a court hearing, the Israeli was to remain in custody for two days.

The Israeli Embassy in New Delhi and Israel’s Foreign Ministry had not commented on the incident at the time of publication.
