Prices in Cyprus rose by 5.2% in August — Cyprus Mail
In Cyprus, the harmonised consumer price index increased by 5.2% year-on-year in August 2026. Compared with July, consumer prices rose by 1.5%, while the index value increased from 105.20 to 106.80 points, Cyprus Mail reports, citing the Statistical Service of Cyprus, Cystat.
Restaurants and accommodation are rising in price the fastest
The highest annual increase among the main categories was recorded in restaurants and accommodation services, at 13.3%. Transport rose in price by 9.8%, while housing, water, electricity, natural gas and other fuels increased by 6.5%.
Prices for recreation, sport and culture rose by 4.4%, for food and non-alcoholic beverages by 3.8%, and for education services by 3.2%. At the same time, clothing and footwear became 5.5% cheaper, prices in information and communication fell by 1.6%, and furniture, household equipment and housing maintenance declined by 0.9%.

On a monthly basis, transport saw the largest increase, rising by 5.5%. Restaurants and accommodation services added 2.7%, while clothing and footwear became 1.5% cheaper, and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels declined by 0.3%.
Energy added 15% over the year
From January to August 2026, the harmonised consumer price index was 3% higher than in the corresponding period of 2025. During this time, prices in restaurants and accommodation rose the most, by 7.5%, while clothing and footwear became 6.4% cheaper.
By economic origin, the largest annual price increase in August was recorded for energy, at 15%. Services became 7.4% more expensive, while food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose by 3.2%. Non-energy industrial goods, on the other hand, became 2.4% cheaper.
