Dozens killed and injured in a train crash in Indonesia
An accident involving two trains and a taxi occurred near the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. The incident left 14 people dead and another 84 injured.
Reuters reported this on April 28.
The collision between a commuter train and a long-distance train occurred late Monday in Bekasi, near Jakarta. It turned out that the commuter train first collided with a taxi on the tracks and was then struck by the long-distance train.
The railway operator reported on Tuesday morning that rescue workers had finished extracting those who were still trapped under the wreckage.
Mohammad Syafii, head of Indonesia’s search and rescue agency, said that a car reserved exclusively for women bore the brunt of the crash. Consequently, all the victims were women, and most of them were pinned under mangled metal.
"We had to bring in personnel with specific skills to carry out a thorough evacuation and recovery operation," he said.

After visiting the hospital in Bekasi, President Prabowo Subianto stated that he had agreed to build an overpass near the railroad tracks to help address the problem of severe traffic congestion, adding that authorities would investigate the collision. He said that significant portions of the rail network are not being properly maintained.
Incidentally, the accident will be investigated by the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
As a reminder, an accident involving Ukrainians occurred in Poland, and there are casualties.
There was also an accident in the Kharkiv region; Ukrzaliznytsia has changed train routes and schedules.
In addition, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" is introducing four additional trains and extending one long-distance route to Yaremche due to increased passenger traffic.
